People thrive from reading, composing stories or songs and all that will be part of literature. It is one thing that people are so keen on. They try to preserve their culture, literature, belief- but what is it really like to step into the shoes of one of the most popular author, poet, composer? I for one have a historic streak in me- not stopping until I have quenched my curiosity on famous personalities that have changed history forever but one thing that really catches my interest are people who have made a mark on our literature. Shakespeare, Dante, Homer, Charles Dickens, William Wordsworth, Alexander Dumas, Jane Austen to name a few in my list but one author that really affects me is one Edgar Allan Poe.

Born as Edgar Poe to parents who had abandoned him (more his father since his mother died after his father left them) and his eldest brother, Henry and younger sister, Rosalie. After the death of Poe's mother he was then sent to live with a Scottish merchant named John Allan. Although it was not officially known that the Allan's legally fostered the young Edgar Poe, they still kept him as an extension to their family- John playing as an actual father figure to Edgar and then later on changing his name into Edgar Allan Poe. Poe was in and out in involvement with the army after a fallout he had with John Allan but later on preceded to officially become an author/ editor and publish some of his creation. Though he had chosen a bad time to in American Publication to release his work he was determined for it to go out for public consumption. He had endured many difficulties in life and even up to his death his life still bore hardship and mysteries that could never compare to what his novels stories were about. You could say that many people have speculated on how he became what he became even after all the success he has had. That is why some had had some ideas on how he had led to his death- call it the “poe thesis” if you may and be prepared to wonder also as we slowly tread and unravel the life of the popular Edgar Allan Poe.

Mainly his work started being known when his book “The Raven” was released and thereafter his work was in genres involving mystery and the macabre. Because of his fast garnered attention for his creations, thus he was then considered as the creator of the detective fiction genre. Through his struggles and his travels he has managed to create writing like no other- one of the very first mind boggling texts can be found in the book made by him. But one thing is for sure; we will never know the mystery that is the life of Edgar Allan Poe. His struggles, his passion, and his death is up to this day- and probably will always be- a mystery to everyone.
